Please realize that 26 states have enacted a 25 year MANDATORY MINIMUM sentence (as in Jessica's Law) for first time offenders convicted of sex crimes against children. While the length of the sentence is generally the same among these states, the definition of sex crime varies. The victim is generally defined as being younger than 12-14 years of age.
